FCI Pekin Release Outcomes
FCI Pekin is a Federal Bureau of Prisons institution at Pekin. It includes a medium-security federal correctional institution and an adjacent minimum-security satellite camp. It is about twenty miles south of Peoria and is not a Peoria County prison. A Peoria federal case location therefore does not identify the place of confinement.
Departure can mean transfer to another BOP institution, placement in a residential reentry center, home confinement, supervised release, handoff to state or immigration custody, or the final end of BOP custody. Residential reentry and home confinement still count as federal custody. A result marked RELEASED has a narrower meaning: BOP custody ended.
| BOP outcome | What it means |
|---|---|
| Another institution | Federal custody continues at a new prison |
| RRC or home confinement | Community placement while BOP custody continues |
| RELEASED | BOP custody ended, but other custody or supervision may remain |
| IN TRANSIT | A movement is underway; it is not a release finding |
| UNKNOWN date | The federal release date has not been determined in the locator |
Confirm FCI Pekin Release
Open the BOP Inmate Locator. Search by the federal register number when known. A name search can also use race, sex, and age to narrow results. Match the person carefully before reading the location and release-date columns.
- Search the BOP locator by register number or full identifying details.
- Match the register number and institution history.
- Read the location and release date exactly as displayed.
- Open the Central District of Illinois docket and judgment.
- Check whether supervised release follows imprisonment.
- Check state or ICE custody if a detainer or transfer is possible.
RELEASED confirms the end of BOP custody only. It does not rule out supervised release or transfer to another sovereign.
The federal judgment provides the legal sentence and supervised-release term. The locator supplies BOP's custody milestone. A receiving state or immigration system explains continuing physical custody. Those records must be read together when a release date alone could mislead.
Peoria Federal Case Geography
The Central District of Illinois has a Peoria division, and the U.S. Marshals Service Peoria office manages federal custody and court operations. That office is in the courthouse. It is not a public jail or walk-in inmate locator. A person in USMS custody may be physically housed at a contract facility before commitment to BOP.
Federal case location and prison location answer different questions. The case may be filed in Peoria while the person is housed at FCI Pekin, another BOP prison, or a contract jail. Use the docket for the legal proceeding and the relevant custodian's record for physical custody.
- BOP
- The Federal Bureau of Prisons, which operates federal prisons and community-corrections custody.
- USMS
- The U.S. Marshals Service, which manages many federal pretrial and transport custody events.
- Supervised release
- Court-ordered federal supervision after imprisonment.
- Sovereign
- A government authority, such as federal, state, or immigration authorities, with its own custody power.
FCI Pekin Contact Records
The official institution page provides contact information, but it is not a historical release database. Use it for facility matters. Use the locator for public status, the court docket for the judgment, and the appropriate records process when a more detailed custody history is lawfully available.

RRM Chicago manages BOP community-corrections placements in the district. Its office does not turn an RRC into a Peoria jail. A person assigned to an RRC or home confinement remains in BOP custody until the federal record changes.

After FCI Pekin Release
A federal judgment can impose supervised release after prison. The U.S. Probation and Pretrial Services Peoria office serves the region, but its published guidance restricts disclosure to the public, including family. Do not assume staff will confirm a named person's status by phone. The filed judgment and later public court orders are the public verification route.
A state detainer can lead to state or county custody after BOP release. An immigration detainer can lead to ICE custody. Search the correct locator only when the facts support that path. ICE's online detainee locator is chiefly a current-custody tool, so a missing result is not proof of community release.
For an ICE question, the Detention Reporting and Information Line is 888-351-4024, Monday through Friday excluding holidays, 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern. Release or check-in paperwork is a key source because it states continuing obligations.
Read Federal Release Dates
BOP explains that a past Release Date paired with RELEASED reflects the end of Bureau custody. A future date is projected and can change after sentence calculations. UNKNOWN means the term has not yet been determined. IN TRANSIT does not mean release.
The BOP's release statistics exclude some transfers to state custody or ICE from community-release counts. That published distinction reinforces the receiving-sovereign check. A person can leave FCI Pekin without entering the community.
The Release Date Lookup keeps federal projections separate from Illinois sentence-credit rules. Do not apply Illinois percentages to a federal judgment. BOP sentence computation, the federal court record, and applicable federal law control.
FCI Pekin Record Chain
| Question | Official source |
|---|---|
| Where is the person in BOP custody? | BOP locator |
| Did BOP custody end? | RELEASED location and past BOP date |
| Does supervision follow? | Federal judgment and court orders |
| Did another agency take custody? | Receiving state, county, or ICE record |
| Was the person only in USMS custody? | Federal docket, court order, and USMS records process |
Use the Peoria County released inmate search when the correct custody system is uncertain. A Peoria County jailing record has no authority over an FCI Pekin release unless a separate local booking occurred.
Federal Release Verification Gaps
Not every federal custody event appears as a simple BOP history. A person held before sentencing may remain under USMS authority and be housed in a contract jail. The docket and release or detention order are then more useful than assuming a missing BOP result means freedom. Historical USMS disposition records may require a focused request and remain subject to privacy limits.
Ask when the named agency's custody ended, why it ended, and which authority received the person next. A court order gives legal authority; an agency disposition shows the actual movement.
FCI Pekin Community Custody
A move to a residential reentry center or home confinement can look like release because the person is outside prison grounds. BOP says both remain federal custody. RRM Chicago oversees community-corrections placements for the district. Check BOP location and status before calling the move a federal release.
Supervised release begins under the judgment after imprisonment as legally calculated. It is not the same as an RRC placement. Federal probation restricts public disclosure, so use filed judgments and later orders for the public record.
Transfers Beyond FCI Pekin
When another government receives the person, continue in that system. An Illinois transfer belongs in IDOC or a receiving county record. An ICE transfer belongs in immigration custody records and release paperwork. BOP statistics distinguish community releases from some handoffs, so always check the next custodian.
